Less than a week removed from assisting Ryan Odom and his University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) to their historic victory over No. 1 seeded Virginia in the NCAA men’s basketball championship, Griff Aldrich was appointed as Longwood’s new men’s basketball head coach, Director of Athletics Troy Austin announced in a press release on March 22.

The Richmond Symphony will take the stage in Jarman Auditorium for the seventh year to perform its New World Symphony concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 20. The concert will include pieces by Kaprálová, Brahms and Dvořák, and will feature soloists Daisuke Yamamoto on violin and Neal Cary on cello.

As the buzzer went off, members of Longwood University’s faculty gazed at the score board with satisfaction, showing a substantial double-digit win. Longwood Hearts Basketball (LHB) is an annual game held in Willett Hall, where a team of the school’s faculty members faced off against a team of students this past Wednesday, March 21. The students ultimately lost, but put up a good fight until the end.

After two years of brainstorming and planning, Wayfast Delivery started serving Farmville on Feb. 14, according to Wayfast Delivery owner Jacob Jamerson. The business initially was designed to deliver groceries to homes from the stores. After some research on the delivery service industry, Jamerson and his friend Brandon Toney decided to focus more on restaurant delivery while still offering grocery delivery. Jamerson and Toney grew up in Farmville so their goal was to start a business they felt the community needed.

“Pacific Rim” shouldn’t really exist. It’s a western Hollywood film based around giant robot mechs fighting giant, Godzilla-inspired, monsters with actual effort put into its story and lore. In a world where the “Transformers” franchise has managed to stumble its way through five films with barely a semblance of plot in each, the fact that “Pacific Rim” had such a strong story to back up its gloriously detailed large scale fights is a testament to director Guillermo Del Toro’s love for the craft of film making.

Longwood’s Got Talent is a talent show held in the Jarman Auditorium of Longwood University each year as the campus wide program for the Cox Hall and Wheeler Hall residential buildings. Each year, the event has a different theme. For the show that was held this past Friday, the theme was diversity. Students performed various talents that had to deal with politics, current events, and the representation of under-served communities.

After the abominations that were the Angelina Jolie “Tomb Raider” films, it’s understandable that public perception of the “Tomb Raider” video game series began to fall. What started as a series with a kick ass female treasure hunter began to devolve into a series of films and video games with bizarre fixations on skintight bodysuits and action scenes in water.

Directed by Greg Berlanti, creator of “Supergirl,” “Arrow,” “The Flash” and “Riverdale,” and written by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, the showrunners of "This Is Us” and writers of series like “Zack Stone is Gonna Be Famous,” "Love, Simon" is the first major studio teen rom-com with a gay central character. From that statement alone, the film is important, but can it deliver a satisfying love story in addition to its historic nature?

The Dean of Students, Larry Robertson, has an impressive resume and will leave Longwood with big shoes to fill, not that it will be happening soon. Even so, Robertson isn’t done with his work at the university, he wants to keep changing applications and procedures to make things easier for students.
