With the global ever-changing pace of the past few months, it seems like almost every form of socializing and social events has been reduced, cancelled or altered in some way. Even though there are numerous things that have changed, one lighthearted concept that has remained constant in our world is national holidays. Nowadays, there seems to be a national holiday for just about anything a person can think of, from donuts to grandparents and now even little hobbies that people participate in.

With the COVID-19 pandemic still going on, it came as no surprise that Longwood's beloved fall tradition, The G.A.M.E. (Greatest Athletic March Ever) would not be occurring at its normal August date. However, that did not make it any less painful. The G.A.M.E. has become a staple at Longwood so not having it this fall is taking some getting used to for students.

Emerging into the new normal, amid the viral pandemic, are facial coverings. Due to the increased Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 measured/recommendations, facial coverings are now a new normal that has been put in place. These semi-thin quality coverings have made a lasting appearance with the increase of its presence in institutions, places of employment, media and now most recently the fashion industry. As facial coverings will likely be worn on walks, grocery store runs or in the gym, designers are certainly making an impresison.

As we trickle in from summer's ending, the spread of COVID-19 has ultimately altered the way normal is considered and has potentially heightened the emotions of feeling stressed and/or anxious. While many across the nation are being advised to partake in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, pertaining to the social distancing and facial covering measures for their well-being, this barrier of social isolation can perhaps take a toll on one’s mental state. Therefore, this will serve as a brief survival guide to maintaining a healthy mental state this semester.
