In the Nov. 15 meeting for the Student Government Association (SGA), Susan Sullivan, director for university center and student activities, presented to the senators the outline for the upcoming university center.
Sullivan mentioned that the first floor will consist of food courts such as Au Bon Pain and Panda Express. There will also be an entertainment center where events would be held pertaining to performances such as slam poetry and comedy nights. Gaming pods will also be available for students to watch TV, play video games or use headphones to listen to music or videos.
Sullivan shared that there will be a main entrance to the second floor of the university center off of Madison Street. The second floor will consist of a full service Starbucks, in addition to offices for organizations such as Lancer Productions and Greek life. A lounge area will be added on the second floor for students that will provide retractable seats for watching movies in the area.
The third floor of the university center will provide rooms for clubs and organizations to meet, which will include a room for the SGA to host meetings, according to Sullivan.
The center will not provide a designated spot for commuters to park. However, there will be resources provided for commuters such as lockers to store necessities, according to Sullivan.
The expected date for the university center to be completed will be Aug. 2018.
Sullivan was unsure about specific offices eventually being added in Lankford Student Union, although she was certain that the building will be renovated.
Representatives of the College Panhellenic Council (CPC) and Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC) attended the meeting to finalize requested allocations to upcoming conferences from the Student Finance Committee (SFC) meeting on Nov. 10.
The CPC requested an allocation of $2,450, initially $4,784, for registration to attend the Southeastern Panhellenic Conference (SEPC).
The allocation of $2,450 was approved by the SGA during the meeting.
The IFC requested the allocation of $3,075, initially $8,023.80, to help fund the council's attendance at the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values (AFLV) Conference in Indianapolis. Chloe Abshire, assistant director of fraternity and sorority life, stated in the meeting that the IFC also brings awareness to issues on campus such as sexual assault.
The allocation of $3,075 was also approved by the SGA.
There will be no SGA meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 22. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 3:45 p.m. in the Martinelli Board Room at the Maugans Alumni Center.
