In a tournament hosted by Division III Christopher Newport University (CNU), Longwood men’s tennis faced not only the Captains, but also Division I Norfolk State and Division III Virginia Wesleyan College in singles and doubles play, winning the majority of their matches.
Within each flight—six in singles, three in doubles—each player or pair faced one from each participating university. Norfolk State did not face Longwood in doubles.
Of their matches, No. 1 Longwood sophomore Alfonso Castellano and No. 3 freshman Julian Farthing had another dominating performance coming off their finals win in the previous Villanova Invitational.
The pair went undefeated in both singles and doubles, totaling eight wins in the Lancers’ favor. Both of their most competitive singles sets were won 6-4.
Junior Florian Uffer also won two of his three singles matches from No. 2.
All of the Lancers earned at least one win in singles and doubles play.
Longwood has two weeks before traveling to the George Mason Invitational from Oct. 3 to 4.
The George Mason Invitational will be the Lancers’ final tune-up before attending the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals beginning on Oct. 15 at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
