The tentative opening date in last week's Rotunda was an unfortunate misprint. It was originally reported that Bar 202 (the Bar section of 202 Bar & Grill) would be opening Tues., March 1, when in fact the actual tentative opening date was Tues., Feb. 1. This misprint caused substantial confusion and was brought to my attention shortly after the article ran.
February 1 has come and gone, and the bar has yet to open. However, a post by 202 Bar & Grill's official Facebook page has indicated that it will open this Thurs., Feb. 3 at 5 p.m. This information became available at 7:30 p.m. yesterday.
David Carmichael, one of 202's owners, has also made a statement regarding a comment made in last week's article. This statement comes in response to the quote from a student that described Main St. Lanes bowling alley as "too far, too cramped, and too smokey."
"While I can't say anything about the distance, I would like to comment on the other comments: our entire bowling area is smoke free and comprises over 17,000 square feet of space. We separated our bar area to comply with new Virginia law regarding smoking rooms in Virginia. Thus, our bar has smoking but it is designed as a smoking room separate from the bowling center. We are the ONLY business in the Farmville area that installed the most modern fresh air filtration system for our smoking area. This means that while not perfect, it is as good as an indoor smoking room can be. We also set up the smoking room so that it is impossible for the smoke to enter the main area of the bowling center, giving customers outside of the bar a smoke free experience. I thought this information was important so that the Longwood community would not think that the majority of the facility had smoke in it.
