LancerNet ID Change to Take Place October 12

Get ready for another technology change. User Support Services has decided to change the format of the LancerNet ID system. The change is slated to become effective on Mon., Oct. 12, during fall break. Currently the format of the LancerNet ID access is the student's first initial, middle initial, and last initial of their name followed by three numeric characters. The new access format will be in the form of the student's full last name, first initial, and middle initial. This is comparative to how faculty and staff log in the system.

For clarifying purposes, if your name was John Adam Doe, your new LancerNet ID would be "doeja." If a student happens to have the same format as another, a number will follow their middle initial. In this case, another person named John Adam Doe would have an access format such as "doeja2." In the event that Longwood does encounter this problem, the two John Does will be notified via their LiveMail email account.

The future format will be used to access myLongwood, Blackboard Academic Suite, Greenwood Library computers and databases, lab computers, registration systems and web shares. According to User Support Services, this new format will have no effect on the Longwood LiveMail email account. Customization on the myLongwood website will be affected by this change and will require re-creation after the ID change. Students who have a webpage and a portfolio will also be affected as the links contain student LancerNet ID's. Students are advised to update links to their webpage and portfolios since the web addresses will change. Students are also advised that the myLongwood portal will be out of service beginning Mon., Oct. 12, at 8 a.m. and lasting until Tues., Oct. 13, at 5 p.m.. Blackboard downtime is also anticipated, but no time has been announced for this. An email regarding Blackboard out of service time will be sent fall break. The time of both the LancerNet ID and the server downtime is meant to be both convenient and appropriate.

Sophomore Carter Williams stated she felt "that if there is no reason for them to change it then they should leave it alone. It will just be one more thing for everyone to have to change and remember." Some students were okay with the change. Sophomore Audrey Ellison said the change does not matter to her and she will "go with the flow."
