The Joan Perry Brock Center was packed once again on Saturday, January 20, to see Longwood play the Presbyterian Blue Hose. Both teams went into the game needing a win due to slow starts in conference play. In a wide-open Big South Conference, every win counts. Longwood showed what it takes in a crucial 80-70 win over Presbyterian.

The Joan Perry Brock Center, since its construction and opening, has presented a new set of experiences and challenges to faculty, staff, students, and the Farmville Community. Following Oliver Anthony’s October 28 concert and the Men’s and Women’s Basketball home openers, officials have continued to adapt to security concerns, different situations, and the newness of the facility.

Starting the season with two tough defeats away from home is not easy. However, the Longwood women’s basketball team showed excellent resilience in coming back from adversity and they looked confident and in control. In their first-ever game at the Joan Perry Brock Center, Longwood would go up against Chowan University following two losses on the road against American and Delaware – winning by a comfortable margin. Longwood would get production from almost all of their players and would capitalize on Chowan’s many mistakes.

The Prestigious Phi Omicron Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. revealed seven new members at their probate on Saturday, November 4 at 5:20 p.m. This is the largest number of new members at one time since the chapter’s charter line in 1994.

After four years of waiting, the Joan Perry Brock Center was officially ready to host its first-ever NCAA Basketball game. The Longwood Lancers were pitted against the St. Mary’s (Maryland) Seahawks. The one factor that mattered more than the Lancers’ dominant play was the fans. The support from the first minute to the last was something to behold. There are many reasons to be not only optimistic but also thoroughly excited for the future and direction of the Longwood men’s basketball program.

The local production company Kemistry Motion Pictures (KMP) is in post-production for their upcoming thriller, “Running Home.” The story follows five students and their teacher at fictional Willow Park High who are living their lives until everything changes when they have to fight to survive after two gunmen infiltrate the school.

Farmville, Virginia’s Oliver Anthony – legally Christopher Lunsford – had one of 2023’s most unlikely claims to fame. His song, “Rich Men North of Richmond,” went viral in August 2023, debuting atop the Billboard Hot 100 and spending two weeks at #1. Following performances at North Street Press Club and Rock The Block, it was only a matter of time until Anthony took his music to the newly-opened Joan Perry Brock Center on October 28.

Olivia Rodrigo’s sophomore album “GUTS” is a confident step forward that remains in touch with her earlier work. “GUTS” is as tightly themed as “SOUR”, Rodrigo’s first released album, and keeps the spotlight on the artist’s signature sound while exploring a larger variety of instrumental and vocal styles. With Longwood’s Men’s soccer season in the rear view, the season’s story has been a mixed bag. If there’s anything it has shown people, it's the fact that no matter how talented your team is–there will always be ups and downs as well as injury risks. However, when looking at the short and long term future for the men’s soccer program, there is definite reason to be excited.
