Pushing the envelope is nothing new. It’s almost become an ironic thing for a film to do, since it's not really all that groundbreaking to push it anymore. Therefore, when an idea comes along that seems genius, it requires a certain finesse to get it to a place of quality. “The Happytime Murders” does not have that finesse.

By any measure, last season was nothing short of historic for the Longwood women’s soccer team. Their loss in the Big South championship game to the High Point Panthers wasn’t how they expected to conclude their season by any means, but their monumental performance over the course of the year etched their way into Longwood history.

My name is Jesse Plichta-Kellar, and I am a vegetarian. Normally I don’t open with that, because it’s really not the most interesting thing about me. I write, I’m Jewish, I started a club, I love history, I went abroad this summer. All of those things are more interesting, but my dietary restrictions are relevant to the discussion, I promise.

Routine, downtrodden, played out and exaggerated are some of the words that could describe the romantic comedy genre. This type of film is so outplayed there have been films about being haunted by dead exes, couples rekindling love while searching for buried treasure, witches using spells to make others fall in love and even convincing the family of a man in a coma that you’re his girlfriend.

Some films have political ideas or messages riding quietly underneath their plots and characters. Some directors like to place subtle nods or hints towards ideas and references within their works. “BlacKkKlansman” is not one of those films, and Spike Lee is not one of those directors. His ideas and the political stance of his films, especially this one, are bold and brash, completely out front. Is the film itself good enough to back up the boldness?

A surefire way to tell if someone is a psychopath is as follows: ask them if they liked middle school. If they reply yes, they’re a psychopath. While not equally awful for everyone, middle school tends to be such a random assortment of hormones and pre-algebra tests that no one enjoys. It doesn’t have the freedom of high school or the care-free nature of elementary school. No film in recent memory has shown this turbulence better than Bo Burnham’s directorial debut, ‘Eighth Grade”.

Winnie the Pooh is probably the most unlikely candidate to make a comeback in today’s age of excitement and genre pushing excess. He’s slow, witty and tends to meander about. Rarely does he do anything with expediency and most of his stories tend to have an element of sadness to them. The latest film featuring the bear of very little brain, “Christopher Robin”, is set to tell the story of what happens to the Hundred Acre Wood after its human caretaker grows up. Is the resulting story as sweet as honey or is it of very little brain as well?

For those unfamiliar with the show, “Teen Titans GO!” is a reboot of the original early 2000’s “Teen Titans” TV series. It abandoned the original’s serial-based plots and anime inspired style, for colorful flash animation art and quippy pop culture references and poop jokes. While the show has received generally mixed reception over its run, Warner Bros. Animation has decided to bring it to the big screen with “Teen Titans GO! To The Movies.” Can it be better than its source material?
