Following a slow start to the season for the preseason number three ranked team in the Big South Conference, Longwood women’s soccer took a step in the right direction Sep. 25, dismantling Hampton 4-0 on awkward field conditions and played to a scoreless draw against Charleston Southern on Saturday, pushing their record to 3-5-1 on the season.

Maxo Kream is a rapper from Houston who has worked with artists such as J-Cole, Lil Uzi Vert and Trippe Redd. Kream started his music career by releasing mixtapes before releasing his debut album “Punken.” Now comes his next album, “Brandon Banks,” named after his father. Kream gets very personal on this album, explaining his childhood and his current status as an artist.

This weekend, three new films opening wide in at least 3,000 theaters, as well as two strong contenders from past weeks, all fought a five-way race for the top of the box office. However, at the end of the weekend, one film emerged winning the box office by $14 million: the film adaptation of “Downton Abbey.”

It’s common in fiction of any kind to use the fantastical to examine deeper and more common truths of humanity. Films like “Blade Runner” and “The Truman Show” have used elaborate and fanciful concepts to look at the simple concept of identity. “Ad Astra” is following in the footsteps of those films, using the concept of a not-to-distant future and space travel to examine some deeply human ideas.

Of the two new films opening wide this weekend after debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival the week before, the Jennifer Lopez lead “Hustlers” lead the charge, opening seven million dollars over projections with an opening of $33,181,361. On the flip side, “The Goldfinch” opened in 2,500 theaters and did not even crack the top 5. The John Crowley directed film debuted in 8th place earning $2.67 Million in its opening weekend, a less than pleasurable start for a film with a $45 million budget.

“Mirrorland” is the third studio album from the hip hop group EarthGang, based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Rappers Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot make this duo unique by combing Rap, R&B, Jazz and Funk. “Mirrorland” pays homage to the popular movie “The Wiz” and it shows with the first song “LaLa Challenge.”

In this week’s Student Government Association (SGA) meeting, newly elected officers in the freshman class were sworn into office. SGA President Haleigh Pannell officiated the proceedings as Freshman Class President Cole Pillow, Vice President Jess Semmler, Treasurer Eva Dorn, Secretary Emma Carlstrom and Representatives Charlotte Austin and Nathan Boyle took the oath.

The evils of Wall Street have been dragged onto the big screen for years and years. Whether it’s a story about the general greed seemingly inherent in that strip of New York business (“Wall Street”) or more focused stories about the market crash of 2008 (“The Big Short”), the concept of the everyday person hitting back at the Wall Street crooks is an American power fantasy second only to that of becoming a Superhero.

Please tell me it isn’t true.” That line may be referring to the titular “The Goldfinch” painting by Carel Fabritius, one could also re-purpose it as a statement on the film adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize winning novel, “The Goldfinch,” by Donna Tartt.
