“Outstrider" is the sophomore effort from black metal veteran Olve “Abbath” Eikemo’s aptly named solo project “Abbath”. Since separating from the legendary band “Immortal” over trademark disputes in 2015, Eikemo’s creative ability has been thrust into the spotlight, and after a full listen, it’s obvious that his ability to write effective and listenable black metal is still alive and kicking.
October of 2009 introduced the world to four misfits in the zombie apocalypse so determined to keep from making connections that they just used their destinations as names. Now, a decade later, “Zombieland” is without a doubt a modern cult hit. The wry sense of humor and gory glory kills gave way to fruitful careers for just about everyone involved: the writers have now written both “Deadpool” films, each of the four leads has been nominated for an Oscar at least once, and the director went on to direct the box office smash hit “Venom.”
After going 9-7 last season and losing to Appalachian State in the first round of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) tournament, Longwood field hockey set out to take the next step in the 2019 season.

This previous weekend saw three new films open in wide release, with one setting records in limited release. However, “Joker” still reigns supreme as the film has already earned nearly 10 times its budget worldwide in just its second week of release. The Joaquin Phoenix starring film has made over $543 million worldwide. It is almost guaranteed to pass the domestic totals of “Justice League” and “Batman Begins” this coming weekend and may even outgross “Man of Steel,” “Batman v. Superman,” “Aquaman” or “Suicide Squad” by the time it leaves theatres.
Yes, they’re creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky, and all together ooky. They’re the Addams Family. But the creaky novelty of the characters has all but worn off nowadays. Not that they still aren’t beloved, but they simply deliver a kid’s movie with a creepy shine on it that isn’t enough nowadays. Unfortunately, unlike the charming and somewhat adult 90’s Addams flicks, this is just that; a kid’s movie with a creepy shine to it and not much else.
The idea of pitting technology against humanity is nothing new. In fact, it isn’t even remotely new given the barrage to films that feature a technological antagonist. Age of Ultron, Terminator Genisys, Transcendence, I Robot, Eagle Eye, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Total Recall, Elysium, Robocop, Ex Machina, Chappie, and those are just from the last 15 years.
Mortar Board
First reported in The Farmville Herald on September 24 and later confirmed by Farmville Chief of Police Andy Ellington, police responded to an incident involving gunshots fired at 1:51 a.m. on September 19 in the rear parking lot of the Midtown Landings, located on South Virginia Street.
In this week’s Student Government Association (SGA) meeting, it was announced that Elwood’s Cabinet, Longwood’s student food pantry, is open two days a week.
After the men’s basketball team lost to DePaul in the second round of the College Basketball Invitational tournament back in March, it appeared that Damarion Geter’s time with Longwood athletics was over. However, that is not the case.
It’s that time of year again in Farmville. The warm aroma of fried Oreos and funnel cakes doused in powdered sugar elevated the crisp feeling of fall that finally permeated the air at this year’s ‘Farmchella’ themed Oktoberfest on October 5th.
There’s something otherworldly to “Joker.” Its dingy color palette and 1.78:1 aspect ratio conflict everything that past comic book movies have done. It’s small, cramped, claustrophobic, and mean. This is a dangerous and upsetting film, not for the faint of heart.

Elwood's Cabinet
Stumbling upon 90 degree weather in the middle of October, tube tops, biker shorts, and sandals seem to be the trend for this ongoing summer, however, it won’t be for long.
Growing up on the pitches of London, former Longwood men's soccer star Josh Hanratty knew the game of soccer was made for him. Before coming to America, he played the game against fully grown men while he was only in his late teens, rooting for North London's Tottenham Hotspur of the Premier League. Despite it being in a tier beneath the professional level, he said the dedication he saw others give shaped the way he plays and thinks about the game, both on the field and in his new role as assistant coach of Longwood men’s soccer.
