The new CEO of Warner Brothers Discovery (WBD), David Zaslav, canceled the upcoming Batgirl movie, the next installment in the DCEU, earlier this year. Batgirl, which was supposed to be a HBOMax streaming exclusive, was nearly completed when Zaslav’s announcement was made that the film would be axed as a tax write off (sources differ on the exact cost of the film, but it firmly rests between 60 and 90 million)

Rent in Farmville is not a concern for many of the college students at Longwood. The University’s policy of mandatory dorm stays until senior year is quite unusual but may save someone from the rental market around Farmville.

On Aug. 22, a ‘welcome back to campus’ banner made by Princeps was taken from the front of Upchurch University Center. The dean of student engagement at Longwood University, Cheryl Steele, saw the banner hanging from the third-floor balcony of the building and needed to take it down, as it was not approved to be hung from the balcony.

Animals who fall victim to hosting another species' offspring are in a constant evolutionary battle with their parasitic foster children. While most brood parasitism in vertebrates can be seen in species of birds, The cuckoo catfish (Synodontis Multipunctatus) has also dipped its evolutionary toes into taking advantage of another fish's good parenting.

Longwood Theatre’s 1930s Chicago twist on the Shakespearian masterpiece Much Ado About Nothing is everything one should expect from a production and more. With spectacular performances from the actors and wonderful staging from the production crew, the most recent production put on by Longwood University’s Theatre Department was a blast, full of laughter and sorrow, with a flair for the dramatic.

For decades, young people have remained the least likely among citizens to register and turn out to vote. According to the Census Bureau, only around 59.8% of those aged 18-24 were registered to vote, trailing every other age group by at least ten percent. Many have asked why this is, with responses such as apathy, disinterest, or lack of opportunity. Others believe that their vote doesn’t matter.

In June of 2022, DC unveiled the official cinematic trailer for Black Adam. The character had been teased in 2019’s “Shazam!” as the previous champion before his imprisonment, but the upcoming film will be the live-action debut for the titular character.

Kenny Beats has truly carved his own lane as a producer in the internet age. Where many are reduced to a tag on a beat, Kenny has diversified so far that it seems hard to believe he started as an EDM DJ for raves. Having his own clothing brand, his own YouTube show that pulls artists as big as Doja Cat to underground legends like Danny Brown, and doing Twitch stream after Twitch stream, it is hard not to admire Kenny’s drive and passion.

Sony once again makes an endeavor into their own cinematic universe based on Marvel properties. Much like how Marvel Entertainment built a cinematic universe based on iconic Marvel comic characters, Sony aims to do the same with Spider-Man characters.

Launched in 2013 Yik Yak is a social media app where users can anonymously post and comment on threads from within a five-mile radius. When it comes to Yik Yak’s impact on campus culture, there are varied opinions from Longwood students and a professor on the app’s positive and negative effects. The people I interviewed are anonymous when giving their opinions.

In today’s world, it seems like almost anything can send massive amounts of people into a panic in the blink of an eye. The added emphasis of social media extending and often exaggerating what goes on doesn’t help either.
