2022 Midterm Election Results: National and Local Races

2022 Midterm Election Graphics - House and Senate

Results from the National Congressional Elections: The House went to the Republicans, who won 221 seats to the Democrats' 214, plus or minus 2 seats. The Senate went to the Democrats at 50 seats to the Republicans' 49, with 1 seat going to a Runoff (Georgia).

Two weeks ago, the country went to the polls to elect the entire House of Representatives, a third of the Senate, Governors, and many other state and local officials in the first midterm of the Biden Presidency. Here are some of the most notable results from November 8th:

The Senate of the United States has been decided, and held by the Democratic Party. As it stands now, the Democrats will have at least 50 seats compared to the Republicans’ 49. With the tie-breaking vote of Vice President Kamala Harris, this is enough to guarantee control for the next two years.

The House, however, is a different story. Republicans have gained control of the House of Representatives by an incredibly thin margin of 222-214, picking up a net gain of around fifteen. Once again, the Republicans had a fairly disappointing night compared to the forty seat gain Democrats put up in 2018, the midterm election of the Trump presidency.

Locally, Farmville had two major elections on the ballot on Tuesday. Virginia’s 5th Congressional District, which Longwood sits in the heart of, re-elected its Congressman Republican Bob Good over Democratic Challenger Josh Throneburg 57-42. Farmville also elected a new Mayor on Tuesday, Independent Councilor Brian Vincent defeated Independent Businessman Carl Eggleston 54-44.
