In this week’s virtual Student Government Association (SGA) meeting, two students were sworn into office and the senate learned about Longwood Recovers.
In Special Orders of the Day, President Brandon Bowen officiated the proceedings as Executive Historian Jessica Faulk and Treasurer Tamaja Terry took the oath.
The students will not assume their roles after being sworn in and will begin their positions effective immediately.
Also in Special Orders of the Day, Ashley Green of Longwood Recovers spoke to the Senate about the program.
She shared that the program is, “a supportive environment within campus culture that reinforces the decision to engage in a lifestyle of recovery.”
The group meets weekly in-person or on Zoom in Upchurch 305A, and there are also one-on-one meetings available to meet individual needs. Email longwoodrecovers@longwood.edu for more information.
In the Advisors’ Report, Dr. Tim Pierson advised the senate to be cautious as the number of COVID cases at the university increases. He stressed the importance of wearing a mask, social distancing and keeping yourself healthy.
In the Treasurer’s Report, Claire Lesman announced that there will be a Student Finance Committee (SFC) meeting on Thursday, January 28 at 4 p.m. on Zoom.
The next SGA meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 2 at 3:45 p.m. on Zoom.
