In the first Student Government Association (SGA) meeting of the semester, topics for upcoming town halls for the SGA as well as the timeline for elections were discussed.
Junior Class President Haleigh Pannell informed the SGA of potential topics for each town hall meeting where students and faculty can come and voice their concerns about such topics.

-Disrespect of Farmville and its Residents
-Volunteerism, Community/Civic Engagement
-Mentoring and Shadowing Programs
Pannell said all of the topics may not be included in the spring semester and may have some in the fall of 2019.
Dr. Tim Pierson, vice president of student affairs, informed the SGA that the Longwood University Police Department (LUPD) will work with the Farmville Police Department (FPD) dispatch office starting Jan. 25. LUPD and FPD have concurrent jurisdiction in the Town of Farmville. Pierson said the change will be minor for most with the LiveSafe app still working 24/7.
Also in his adviser’s report, Pierson gave appreciation for David Love, director of landscape and grounds/sport turf and sustainability, and his staff for getting Longwood’s campus ready for classes beginning.
Executive Senator of Senate Relations Sierra Davey started an initiative to allow free feminine products in academic bathrooms on campus. About one third of the SGA expressed interest in helping with the project.
In open forum, Sports Club Council (SCC) President Courtney White asked the SGA to have a SCC representative added since their membership has grown on campus.
Senior Class President David Gills shared the timeline for upcoming elections:
-February will host open houses
-March 1 the application opens
-March 18 the application closes
-March 26 debate, if needed
-April will be the transition period with new positions
Sky Sweeney was elected to be the Junior Class Treasurer.
The Constitutions for the German Club and All For Respecting Our Hair (AFROH) were both passed.
Virginia 21 and State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) Representative Mary Zell Galen presented the SGA with a CHI commendation.
Executive Treasurer Emily Moran informed the SGA upcoming budget information sessions will take place on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. in the Wilson Chamber in the Upchurch University Center. All organizations wishing to request funding in the 2019-2020 year are required to attend Moran said.
The Student Finance Committee (SFC) will not have a meeting this Thursday, Jan. 17. SFC will now meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays in the Simpson room located at 313 in the Upchurch University Center.
The next SGA meeting will be on Jan. 22 at 3:50 p.m. in the Wilson Chamber in the Upchurch University Center.
Dr. Pierson thanked David Love, director of landscape and grounds/sports turf/sustainability, and his staff for waking up early to ready the campus grounds for delayed openings.
Courtney White, President of the Sports Club Council, asked SGA to have a representative due do their increased membership.
