In the last Student Government Association (SGA) meeting of the semester, there was no special presentation and no open forum.
During the adviser’s report, Dean of Student Engagement Cheryl Steele talked briefly about the rededication of the N.H. Scott Lounge. The N.H. Scott Lounge was originally in Lankford Student Union and was rededicated as the N.H. Scott Multicultural Center on the third floor of Upchurch University Center.
The center was named in honor of Longwood’s first African-American graduate, Nancy “Cookie” Scott ‘72. According to Longwood’s website, the center “serves as a meeting room, gathering space, and safe/fun space for Longwood University’s underrepresented students and culturally based organizations.”
During the president’s report, President Josh Darst reminded Senate that Elwood’s Cabinet, the new student food pantry, will be having its opening on Nov. 14 at Wesley Campus Ministries from 5 to 7 p.m.
During Vice President Lucas Hobson’s report, he told SGA that resident assistant (RA) applications will be due Nov. 28 at 12 p.m.
Hobson also announced that he will be stepping down from his executive position and will be leaving SGA.
Jack Harmon, executive senator for senate relations, reminded Senate of the impact they have and told them all to look up to Hobson as inspiration. During his report, Harmon said Hobson represents what Longwood stands for.
Executive Vice President Lucas Hobson announced that he is stepping down from his position for his remaining time at Longwood.
