As the Director of Student Athlete Enhancement Hannah Ledger sees the student athletes impact they have on her rather than her impact she has on them.
“It’s pretty easy because it is the students that really motivate me to come. I’ve always had a good relationship with the students that I work with. After previously teaching LSEM (Longwood Seminar), I wanted more which is why I transitioned into athletics,” said Ledger. “I get an opportunity to work with the students 24/7 and its great. With some it’s a relationship that goes beyond just being a staff member, you get to be a part of their family and you look forward to seeing your family every day."
As a Longwood alumni, Ledger helps student athletes with their undergraduate courses.
"Its exactly what you want and they (student athletes) are trying to engage and thats what they want to do, they want to come in, and they get frustrated when my door is closed and I get texts like 'where are you what are you doing' all the time. Its a really great feeling," said Ledger.
Overtime, Ledger described the meaning of being a Lancer has changed for her with serving students.
“Being a Lancer is so many things like the citizen leadership we talk about, and there are so many parts of being a Lancer, and having the ability to be a part of this campus and this community is such a great thing,” said Ledger.
Finding a place at Longwood came naturally to her when she came back to Longwood for her Masters degree.
“I had no idea that this was even a job when I was an undergraduate, I didn’t know of this position, but there are always new things coming up, and new opportunities to explore and what you have to do is keep your eyes open, and see what fits you to who you really are,” said Ledger.
Transitioning from LSEM to Longwood Athletics has been the most rewarding for Hannah Ledger, director of student athlete enhancement.
