Migos' "Culture 2" is underwhelming at best

The rap trio Migos released their sequel to the album "Culture," aptly named "Culture 2."

When listening to Migos, you can expect two things: banging beats and some laughably cringe-worthy lyrics.

Quavo, Offset and Takeoff hail from Atlanta, GA. The group's name originated from their trap house that they used for production or consumption of drugs as teenagers.

Migos creates what kids today call "trap music". Artist such as 2 Chainz, Gucci Mane and 21 Savage also have that "rich" trap sound from Atlanta.

Migos' first big hit was in 2013 when they came out with the song "Versace", which was produced by the famous Zaytoven. The song was so popular even Drake hopped on it to make it one of the most listened to songs of that year.

Now, Migos have changed up their flow and their musical production with their latest album "Culture 2", which is a sequel of "Culture", their best-known album.

So, did "Culture 2" live up to its predecessor? Absolutely not.

"Culture 2" is just a longer version of "Culture", dragging on with 24 tracks. Disrespectful.

Throughout, the album they only talk about three things: the trap, girls and their wealth.

Migos talk about these subjects all the time but after an hour and 45 minutes it kind of gets old.

However, Migos did get creative with some of their productions of the songs. The song "Narcos" has a Spanish-type vibe to it. It’s out with a Spanish guitar followed by a sample of the Spanish drum. The trap beat comes in nicely to give the song some texture.

Migos in this song, talk about drug lords in South America off of the television show Narcos. Migos has some funny lines, like always, such as “Sack him, hit a lick and cop a pterodactyl”. I know it doesn't have any context but it surprisingly fits with the beat.

The one catchy song that they have would be “Walk It Talk It” featuring Drake. This song is about fake people who try to walk into the lives of the two artists. The beat is produced by OG Parker with the other producer Deko.

Drake is featured on this, which kind of pays homage to the Migos' first hit song "Versace". Drake did a decent job on his verse. He mentions, “So I can’t be beefin’ with no wack n**** got no backbone”. His flow on the track is pretty decent wasn’t really anything big.

Now here is the part of the review where I rant because this album took me through some trials and tribulations.

First off, the lyrics on this album are really cringe-worthy especially “My diamonds on my wrist look like McFlurry’s". Although it is funny, it did not fit the song “Emoji a Chain”. Also, the duration of album was terrible. When this album is longer than my favorite movie, that's an issue.

Overall, "Culture 2" has some good moments but it fails to become better than its predecessor. This album had so much potential but it just became a bad movie sequel.
