Since transferring from East Tennessee State University to Longwood University, freshman Mairin Williams settled into Farmville as a communication studies major concentrating in digital media. Williams realized Longwood was a better fit because it offered significantly smaller class sizes with professors and peers who truly care about her success.

“Honestly I feel like if I wasn’t at Longwood, I wouldn’t want to repeat my freshmen year because it’s a lot of fun here and a way better environment,” said Williams.

Williams started getting involved on campus by joining WMLU radio station. She hopes to become involved in Greek life during her second semester.

“I like having a good group of people around me… I like to motivate people and have people motivate me,” said Williams.

Williams is interested in the different philanthropies Greek life offers, more specifically philanthropies which are raising awareness to breast and childhood cancer. Those resonate more with Williams because of having close relationships with children who are battling cancer.

“There’s been a lot of illness in my family, so I feel like if I can advocate for it, then that’s pretty cool,” said Williams.
