To most college students, food is something that tops the list of most important things to think about when choosing a school. Luckily for Longwood students, Farmville is home to many great local restaurants in addition to your average chain restaurants.
One restaurant that is a favorite among Longwood students is Macado’s. They have a wide range of all-American food items to choose from, including over 40 variations of sandwiches.
“It is one of my favorite restaurants in Farmville because everyone can find something to eat and enjoy and I love the atmosphere,” said Senior Longwood student Shannon Phelan.
Another restaurant that has become a hit among students in the past year is Uptown Café. Owned by a Longwood alumnus, Uptown is easily accessible to students because it is within walking distance of campus and located among many popular shops along Main Street.
When asked what she loves about Uptown, Senior Emily Gallihugh couldn’t choose just one thing. “Uptown has incredible coffee and hot chocolate, delicious sandwiches, and the perfect, relaxing environment. I study at Uptown, but I also love to meet up with friends there.”
The coffee shop features breakfast items, sandwiches, wraps and salads along with their coffee and ice cream. Check out the live music that Uptown features each week in the evening.
The restaurant with a recent rise in popularity is none other than Walker’s Diner. The diner was featured on a Food Network show called “American Diner Revival” in an episode titled “Fraternity Fix-Up.”
Longwood students who nominated the diner for the show worked hand-in-hand with Ty Pennington and Amanda Freitag to renovate the diner in five short days.
“The experience was unforgettable, working alongside Ty and Amanda was definitely a treat,” said Junior Josh Harkema. “Ty brought the uplifting personality to the set when things weren’t going right, while Amanda made the delicious food. I had a blast with the whole project from start to finish!”
If you haven’t checked out Farmville’s latest claim to fame, make sure you stop in to try something new on Walker’s menu.
If you love breakfast food at all times of the day Main Street Bagels is the place to go, they have a variety of bagels, wraps and pastries as well as hardy sandwiches for lunch.
What used to be Bar 202 is now Badeaux’s Cajun Chicken at Bar 202, this new addition to town has become increasingly popular among students. If you’re looking to try something mild or spicy, Badeaux’s would be the place for you. Featuring Cajun style food this restaurant spices up the community’s food variety.
You can find Badeaux’s across from French Hall by entering through the The Weyanoke Hotel lobby.
A longtime favorite among college students is cheap Mexican food. Luckily, El Patron is located within walking distance of campus and serves everyone’s favorites with daily affordable specials.
There’s plenty of time to try these local restaurants along with many more before the semester is over. So save up your money and make sure you support Farmville’s local restaurants when you need a break from the dining hall.
