Farmville is home to unique outdoor events, state parks, two colleges, historical landmarks and of course unique eateries. One of these many attractions has caused a huge spotlight to be cast on the town.
Walker’s Diner was nominated to be on a show called “American Diner Revival” by Theta Chi Fraternity at Longwood University. This new show aired on the Food Network on May 22 and is hosted by Ty Pennington and Amanda Freitag.
“American Diner Revival” is a show that comes in and restores classic diners so that they can reach their full potential in satisfying their customers and their many business endeavors.
“With help the volunteers from the community and Theta Chi they got it done,” said Arlene Mosher, owner of Walker’s Diner. “They showed up on a Friday and told me not to come back until Tuesday.”
Mosher had mentioned that she is very close with the Fraternity and is very grateful for everything they have done to help her with these recent improvements.
When she came back to the diner many improvements had been made to help make it a more comfortable and sociable environment.
“When the Food Network came the changes consisted freshening up the outside; The Food Network paid to have a patio, a smoker, and a peanut cooker installed,” said Mosher. “They also painted the outside and put up some fencing to itemize the space, giving some direction to people who may want to come to the patio.”
According to Mosher they also painted the inside and changed up the bar stools, freshening it up a bit and making it look like as if it existed in the 1950s. Other big changes involve Walker’s new ‘Specialty Menu,’ which was created by Freitag from the show “Chopped.”
Mosher has owned Walker’s for eight years and is one of the many Women-Owned Business Owners who has been featured by the Farmville Downtown Partnership and Visitor Center.
“The name Walker’s Diner came from Trent Walker who bought the diner in 1976 he ran it for the longest,” said Mosher. “He owned it about 20 years and the previous owner and myself decided to keep the name.”
A spotlight of fame has shined a light down not only on this diner but also on the Town of Farmville. You will be able to see Walker’s Diner on the sixth episode of American Diner Revival, airing on June 26.
