The shooting that took place on the 200 block of 4th Street on June 10 occurred at approximately 8:32 p.m. on Wednesday night, where a fight involved several subjects

who were in an ongoing disagreement before the shots were fired.

According to Chief of Farmville Police, Curtis Lee Davis, stated in a press release the suspect, 32-year-old Junious Mottley of Rice, Va., was charged with Malicious Wounding and was incarcerated.

“During the fight, the suspect pulled a firearm and fired one round striking the victim in the arm,” said Davis. “[He] fled the scene and was apprehended by police in the 500 block of South Virginia Street shortly after the incident.”

According to Davis the victim was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

A Longwood University campus alert was sent out to all students and faculty, which is standard procedure due to the close proximity of the campus, according to Davis.

“I think the most important thing is there is a reality of safety and the perception of safety, students should keep fine balance,” said Davis.

Chief Davis encourages students to recognize that every day is a different day and that it is important for students to always be conscious of surroundings and report anything suspicious and never fall into the perception that nothing bad can happen.

Davis had mentioned that the department is continuing to investigate to see if this shooting is related in any way to the shooting that occurred on May 26.

“If we do find anything that is of concern we certainly will share that even if it’s at the expense of the case,” said Davis.
