The ISIS Threat

Officials recently told CNN they have a “pretty good idea” of who executed American journalist, James Foley, in a recent video released by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, commomly know as, ISIS. One source told the network that, “We’ve been using all means to identify the person [but] it’s not 100%.” As of right now, the executioner is believed to be a British citizen who defected to the terrorist group. Rumors are also circulating that the identity of the executioner has been knownto British intelligence officers over a year ago.

Experts are still trying to determine if it is the same man speaking in the video execution of another American reporter, Steven Sotloff. In this video, the masked terrorist personally calls out President Barrack Obama saying, “I’m back, Obama, and I’m back because of your arrogant foreign policy towards the Islamic State.”

Recent approval ratings show that only 38 percent of Americans approve of Obama’s handling of international affairs. This number is down eight points since July, bringing the numbers down to a career low. In addition, Americans, by a 17-point margin, say that Obama has divided the country more so than unite it. This being a worse rating than George W. Bush during his second term.

Other surveys show that 65 percent of Americans are in favor of the president clearing air strikes against the insurgents in Iraq and Syria. “I just want the American people to understand the nature of the threat and how we’re going to deal with it and to have confidence that we’ll be able to deal with it,” Obama told interviewer Chuck Todd on ‘Meet the Press.’ “The next phase is now to start going on some offense. We have to get an Iraqi government in place, and I’m optimistic that next week we should be able to get that done.”

After a NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) meeting in Wales on the 8th, Obama managed to convince only nine out of 28 nations to join combat efforts against the ISIS group, including Canada, Australia and the UK.
