So … You Should Definitely Go See ‘That Awkward Moment’

“That Awkward Moment” was everything I thought it would be and more.

Zac Efron, Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan play three best friends living in their twenties in New York City, going through the typical relationship problems, or lack thereof.

Efron plays a carefree book cover artist (Jason) who keeps a constant string of girls holding on so that when things get serious and one of these girls interrupts sex to begin a conversation with that infamous “So…” he’s prepared to move onto the next.

Teller stars as one of Efron’s best friends, Daniel, whose nightly activities include using his wing-woman and best friend as a way to pick up females in their usual bar. And when he’s not picking up women, he’s always taking a crap in Jason’s bathroom. Seriously, I’m not kidding. It’s mentioned at least five times throughout the movie.

And finally, Jordan finishes out this hilarious group of friends playing Mikey, the young doctor who seems to have it all going for him. However, that changes quickly when he walks into his apartment early after work one day to find his wife and her lawyer/lover waiting for him with divorce papers.

So when the three guys realize that they’re single and life could be just like the old times in college, they come up with this brilliant plan to stay single and relive the glory years. But like everything else, it doesn’t work out as well as originally planned.

Of course, it just so happens that Jason finds the perfect girl, the one that he could spend the rest of his life with, right after making this agreement. But the rest of the guys can’t know this because then he would lose the bet they also made, and in guy world, that definitely isn’t okay.

But what he doesn’t know is that Daniel also has a secret; he’s quickly falling for his wing-woman. And even though he tries to keep the guys thinking he’s still available every night at the bar by flirting with basically everygirl that walks in, it’s completely obvious that something’s up.

And it continues to get better! Mikey never actually divorced his wife. Instead, they’ve been secretly meeting at his office for spontaneous hookups almost daily.

Like almost every secret between groups of friends, this one doesn’t exactly go as planned. It actually ends up blowing up in the guys’ faces and creating an amazing and hilariously happy ending.

And even though this movie doesn’t originally seem like a chick flick, it has the potential to be one. The sappy love stories work out for everyone in completely unexpected ways in the end. This movie isn’t all about the ending, though.

Like everything else, it’s about the journey that gets you there. And for these three guys, it’s pretty hilarious. Of course, it wouldn’t be an R-rated comedy without at least a few awkward, interrupted sex scenes as well as “rocking out” and a bathroom fight at a family Thanksgiving dinner. Overall, “That Awkward Moment” is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen, and it’s a great movie for guys and girls alike.

It’s basically impossible to leave the theatre without a smile on your face and wanting more.
