Phi Mu Delta Brothers Excited to ‘Leave Something Behind for Future Brothers’ at Chartering Ceremony

This coming Thursday at 6 p.m., the brothers of Phi Mu Delta and many other members of the Longwood community will witness the Sigma Alpha Colony finally become chartered. The basic point behind this ceremony is to make the colony that exists at Longwood into a full chapter. The Sigma Alpha Colony will become the first southern chapter, according to Bryan Roethel, a Phi Mu Delta Brother. This is a very big moment for many of the brothers, and they could not be more thrilled to be a part of this historic ceremony. According to the official website of Phi Mu Delta, the fraternity “was founded nationally in 1918 as the first national fraternity to accept men regardless of their race or religious affiliation.” Phi Mu Delta has chapters at the University of New Hampshire, Keene State College, New England College, The Pennsylvania State University and other universities along the eastern coast and into New England.

Roethel, a graduating brother, said he is “very excited” about the event. Jeremy Ashby, another graduating Brother of Phi Mu Delta, said, “This is a historical event, and I am glad to be a part of it, glad to participate in something and leave something behind for future brothers." Jake King, a new brother, who will miss the event on Thursday, said he is “kind of bummed I am missing it because I am new and not as experienced as other brothers. I wish I could be there.” The Phi Mu Delta Brothers will also have a private dinner to celebrate their achievements and chartering.

There are also rumors circulating that perhaps two people from the National Board will be attending the ceremony. The brothers have encouraged the student body to “come out and support us in this historic moment of our Chapter.” The ceremony will take place in the Lankford Student Union at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013.
