“The Impossible” – What would you do if you were separated from your family when a tsunami hits? This film follows such a story of a family on holiday in Thailand during the flooding from the
Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004. When husband and wife are separated, each desperately holds on to their own kids trying to find the rest of the family. The struggle for survival becomes apparent when the decimated city bands together, fighting to find love ones. (Ewan McGregor, Naomi Watts, Marta Etura, Geraldine Chaplin, Tom Holland) “Gangster Squad” – In the late 1940s, Chicago is run by Mickey Cohen and his ruthless gun-slinging posse that accompanies him. With the protection of the police and the politicians, Mickey has the city under lock. Sgt. John O’Mara and Jerry Wooters band together to create a secret underground unit to take down the mob.
When the guns go up though, not even the law can get in the way of the police. (Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Emma Stone, Sean Penn, Michael Peña, Giovanni Ribisi.) “The Central Park Five” – This documentary takes a second look at the vicious rape of a Central Park jogger in 1989 and the five innocent suspects that were wrongly convicted of the crime. The film looks at the background of the case as well as new and old interviews and expert analysis on the case. It also digs deeper into the case and how the police had more than enough evidence to pinpoint the real murderer, Matias Reyes, a convicted murderer and rapist who confessed in 2002 that he had committed the crime. Directed by Ken Burns. (Ed Koch, David Dinkins, Kharey Wise, Antron McCray) “A Haunted House” – While many people seem to do the same thing in every scary movie, this one is the complete opposite.
The movie is written as a type of spoof on scary movies like “Paranormal Activity” and “The Devil Inside” with characters that don’t do the normal thing when something pops out of the closet. When a young couple moves into a new house, they notice paranormal instances occurring that they must fight against while also keeping up their relationship.
