Episode 11, “Whips and Regret”... Well, isn’t that a cheesy title? Either way, this episode proved to be much better than last week's episode. Jacob, as a character, is thriving. I know it’s sort of sick to say, but I think that killing Paul was the best thing that could have happened to him. He is physically stronger and much more sure of himself. Now that he’s not a push over, he is a much more interesting character. It’s like Emma and Jacob have switched bodies.
All things considered, I’m surprised Emma even cares. She slept with Joe and ignored Jacobs phone calls — doesn’t that just sound like a soap opera? Anyway, in the grand scheme of things I don’t think I would feel bad if Emma got hit by a bus at this point, she is a conniving, calculating tramp.
I also had no doubts that the website the FBI found would link up and lead them directly to the training
grounds, but that was not the case. That was a pleasant surprise. But the actual training ground was even more interesting. That scene kept me on my toes and I think having the actual cult members locked up was sort of clever. I, at least, was a little surprised when the guard freed them and they started to attack him.
But this whole, “You will love me again” thing, even when said with a husky British accent, is still nothing but a horrible cliché that has been done in every bad, evil villain movie ever. Come on screenwriters, really? I will say that Claire is sticking to her guns, though. She’s a good mom and even though Joe is a killer, as a viewer I can’t help liking him when it comes to seeing how much he really does love his wife; so much that he let’s her see her son. I think the real question is where can they go from here?
Molly showed her face again on a scandalous recording and again ended the episode by surprising Hardy at his apartment. There is a flashback to her
saying that she wants to kill Ryan, but part of me really does wonder if she’s developed feelings for him. Or is that just what they want you to think?! Personally, I will go with the sappy, yet again, cliché: that Molly has developed feelings for Hardy. But Ryan, let’s face it dude, this whole hiding in the bottom of a bottle thing is ridiculous.
I think the overall consensus of this episode is that it does rate above being just a filler, but it didn’t have me at the edge of my seat the entire time, either. Surprisingly, I think the best parts of the episode involve the cult members and not so much Joe.
Joe and Claire, you don’t have to be a psychic to see how that bomb is going to explode. I am curious about Molly, and I think Roderick just wants to feel like Joe’s friend again and not just another hired hand, but he is also having a hard time letting go of his power position. Jacob might kill someone, but the reason I will be watching next week? To see what coup Joe’s cult members are preparing for!
