Lindsey Winder Shares Struggles of Loved Ones with Cancer

Senior Longwood student Lindsey Winder has an older brother who was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer at a very young age. When she was born, her parents were unsure of her health, but it turned out for the best. By her seventh grade year, Lindsey had become very close with her aunt. But during that school year, she passed away from breast cancer.

Lindsey continued on through ife, remembering her aunt, and after a girls’ trip to Mexico, she and her family were sunburned slightly. When her mother’s chest continued to have clear marks on it, even after the others’ had healed, it became evident something was wrong. After a struggle and fight, her mother passed away from Leukemia before Lindsey was done with her freshman year at Longwood University.

By her sophomore year, it became apparent that her father was ill with esophagus cancer. On Mother’s Day, not too long later, he passed as well after a visit from her. With Lindsey finishing her senior year currently, she reflected on the past with this heartbreaking story that she shared with Relay For Life attendees. As a member of Alpha Delta Pi, she appreciated her sisters for staying by her and shared that she is still living with the memory of the members of her family that have passed, but she still looks to the future, starting with graduation quickly approaching.
