Lacrosse Beats Old Dominion, Loses to Davidson

The LU women’s lacrosse team went 1-1 last weekend with a 17- 10 triumph on the road at Old Dominion on Wednesday before falling at Davidson on Saturday, 17- 7.

Against Old Dominion, the Lancers (6-3, 2-1 Big South) led by 9-4 at the half before pulling away throughout the second. The Lancers were paced by five goals on six shots from midfielder Katie McHugh and a hat trick from both midfielder Lauren Prasnicki and attacker Sarah Arndt. Prasnicki had a game-high eight assists. Christian Acker played all 60 minutes in net, earning the win with 11 saves on 21 shots. The Monarchs’ Ashmore Standing had a team-high five goals and keeper Karen Hayde had three saves on 20 shots. “They came out strong and stuck to the game plan both on offense and defense. McHugh had a nice day scoring, and Prasnicki did an amazing job feeding,” said First-Year Head Coach Elaine Jones afterward.

On Saturday, it was a different tale as Longwood trailed 9-1 at halftime and couldn’t mount a comeback, losing to Big South foe Davidson. McHugh and midfielder Jamie Brentlinger had two goals each, contributing to Longwood’s seven goals on 29 shots. Acker had the loss in net, playing just over 1.5 halves, giving up 15 goals on 17 shots. Caitlyn Miller finished the game, saving two of four shots.

“For whatever reason, we came out flat from the start and once Davidson got the momentum, we just couldn't get it back. But, sometimes these games happen, and we will learn from it. We just need to continue to work on our consistency and playing the full game from start to finish,” Jones said.

Next for Longwood is a road game at 2-6 High Point, as the Panthers play in their Big South opener. The Lancers will return home on Saturday to play a 3-6 William and Mary team from the CAA.
