According to the Southside Messenger, a team of Charlotte County residents, students and faculty from the county’s school system plans to participate in the 2013 Polar Plunge on Feb. 2. This year being held at Virginia Beach, the annual event serves a charitable role in which those willing to accept the challenge dive into frigid winter waters for a minimum donation of $100. A variety of safety precautions will be taken to ensure that the health of this year’s participants is not unreasonably compromised. For those uninterested in braving the Atlantic waters, the Polar Plunge takes place alongside the 2013 Polar Plunge Winter Festival, including activities such as the Saturday morning 5k and Saturday Night Beach Bash, that also collect money for the Special Olympics. The festival will also be held at other locations around the state, including Radford and Lynchburg
