Ranked in the top 10 for the entire season, the Longwood Club Baseball team won three of three this past weekend against Radford University, knocking in a total of 30 runs in just two games. The Lanc- ers won game one by a final of 12-2 and game two 17-7. Radford was forced to forfeit game three due to not having enough players.
After the consecutive wins
this past weekend, the Long- wood Club Baseball team plays the University of Rich- mond in three games this weekend, though Richmond has already forfeited the third game. According to catcher and team president Quaid Anderson, with the early forfeit, the Lancers now only need to defeat Richmond in one of two games in order to clinch a spot in the regionals of the club baseball confer- ence tournament. The winner of the conference tournament
will be the only team to move on to the World Series.
As with all other conference tournaments, however, a team's seed or ranking in the conference tournament can greatly benefit, whether it be home-field advantage, a first round bye, or a game against an easier opponent in the first round.
Before this past weekend, the Lancers were second to Radford in standings. Hand- edly beating Radford re- cently in two head to head
games though, it looks as if Longwood will attain the top overall seed in the conference tourney.
According to The National Club Baseball Organization, the top team in every district gets into the tournament and then an at-large bid is picked. If there are any teams with identical records at the end of the season, there are four tie- breakers to determine conference standing in the tournament. The first tiebreaker for determining final conference
standing is head-to-head results.
That being said, Anderson is looking at one game at a time. He added that if they are able to score enough runs this weekend, they are most likely in the running to take the number one seed of the tourney and give them an easier ride to the conference championship and the World Series Championship in Co- lumbus, Ga. later this year.
