Antwan Carter Makes All-State Team

Antwan Carter's list of accomplishments continues to grow at Longwood.

Earlier this offseason, the senior center's all-time scoring record was recently supplemented with a third selection to the All-Independent team. He also garnered a second win of the Independent Player of the Year Award, as selected by College Sports Madness, CollegeHoops.net and CollegeInsider.com.

It was also announced last week that Carter (St. Petersburg, Fla. /St. Petersburg High) was selected to the Virginia Sports Information Directors' 2012 All-State Men's Basketball Team. The first team, which is comprised totally of seniors, also includes Virginia forward Mike Scott, George Mason forward Ryan Pearson, Hampton guard Darrion Pellum and Norfolk State center Ryan O'Quinn.

Carter led all players across the Commonwealth in scoring with 19.4 points per game and added 9.2 rebounds per game. He said on Tuesday that "being the first player to be selected to first-team all-state since LU went D1 is truly a blessing. I thank God, my family, my coaches and my teammates. Without them, this wouldn't be possible."

The only player in Longwood basketball's 36-year history with over 1,800 points and 1,000 rebounds, Carter finished his career first on the all-time scoring list with 1,886 points and second in rebounds behind Jerome Kersey with 1,008.

He said "I am honored to be recognized. I work hard and pray even harder; I'm truly blessed."
