On March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Molnar Recital Hall of Wygal Hall, Longwood students and faculty discussed the benefits of a student-run mission trip taken to Kampala, Uganda this past winter break. The Longwood students who attended the trip included Emberli McGann, Holly Smith, Anna Grieb, Amanda Krzywicki, Erica Hazelwood, Katie Beals, Shannon Rosedale and Kate Locke, along with Director for Residential and Commuter Programs Angela Jackson. A regular day in the mission trip involved Street Reach in the morning, where students would go to the streets of Uganda Field and play football or soccer with over 30 local boys, feed them rice and organize a medical station to treat anything from simple scrapes to malaria and HIV. The students also visited New Life Homes, where over 40 rescued boys resided. The Longwood students and faculty also donated 393 shirts, 76 pairs of pants, 56 dresses, 253 drawstring bags, 270 protein bars, 89 pairs of shoes, 635 cans of soup, 486 toothbrushes, and 103 Bibles. The students are still collecting funds and donations to support the boys in Africa in an effort to pay for food and programs.
