Mike Comrie Retires from NHL

According to Yahoo Sports, Mike Comrie, a familiar name to most NHL players and fans, retired this past Monday. Starting his career with the Edmonton

Oilers in 2000, Comrie would later play in Philadelphia, Phoenix, New York and Ottawa. In Ottawa, he would be part of the Senator team to lose the 2007 Stanley Cup to Anaheim. During his 12-year career, Comrie accumulated 168 goals and 197 assists. 33 of his goals came in his first year in the league; he later went on to win a gold medal for Canada at the 2002 World Hockey Championship. Limited to only 127 games the past three seasons, Comrie ended his 12-year career at the age of 31. His retirement was forced early after a third hip surgery, followed by his acknowledgment that he could no longer

"manage the rigors of NHL play." Some will remember Comrie for his hockey career, while others will remember him from his association with singer Hilary Duff. Married, they are expecting their first child in March.

Lakers Beat Raptors 94-92, Bryant Hits Game Winner

On Feb. 12, Kobe Bryant provided us with yet another example of his true talent. Not only did he put down 27 points for the Lakers, but he scored the game-winning basket to beat the Raptors by two, according to Yahoo Sports. Hitting a three-pointer with time running down, Bryant then forced a steal on the Raptors' next possession and obtained an easy layup. Putting the Lakers in front by one, the Raptors were blessed with one last chance to win, but foolishly forgot to call time out when inbounding the ball, causing them to lose possession. Following this, Bryant would score one more free-throw and lead the Lakers to 94-92 victory and win number 16 in the Pacific Coast division. Though a key contributor, Bryant got help from Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum who both put up double figures. Following this win, the Lakers are now second in the Pacific Coast division, one win behind the LA Clippers.

Jeremy Lin is NBA's New Star

Until recently, it looked as if Yao Ming would be the only Asian-American to make headlines so quickly after joining the NBA. In fact, Ming is very aware of the upcoming basketball star, according to Yahoo Sports. A Harvard graduate, Jeremy Lin started his career on the Golden State Warriors, where his talent

seemed to be overlooked. Immediately following the NBA lockout, Lin would be cut from the Warriors to free salary cap space. Later traded from the Houston Rockets to the New York Knicks in December 2011, Lin found his home. In his first four career starts on the New York Knicks, the Harvard graduate

would score 109 points, the most scored by any NBA player since 1976. In regards to dropping Lin from their roster right before his record setting start on the Knicks, all Houston Rockets general manager could say was, "I didn't know he could play this well, and if I did, we would've kept him."
