Duke Basketball Won't Win the ACC Conference this Year?
Slowly building their team from the ground up, the Florida St. Seminoles are chasing their first regular season ACC title in program history. The Seminoles have already defeated Duke, NC State, Wake Forest and No. 7 North Carolina, creating a 19-7 record with little time remaining before March Madness. Winning 10 of their past 11 games, the Seminoles face Duke yet again this upcoming Thursday night. Even head coach of the Blue Devils, Mike Krzyzewski, commented that Florida St. is "really deep. They come at you with nine or 10 guys, so they are fresh." Leading scorers Ian Miller (point guard) and Michael Snaer look to continue their team's success in the postseason as the Seminoles brag over a 41-19 record since the 2008-2009 season. Now, with hopes of their first ACC title, Florida St. will be visited by the Blue Devils this coming Thursday who look to avenge their last three-point loss to the Seminoles. As competition increases and nerves heighten, the match-up is said to be one of the most highly anticipated games for the Seminoles in decades. (via NBC Sports)
Edwards Starting First in Sunday's Daytona 500
Qualifying laps are important. This is precisely why both Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle secured their starting positions in the Daytona 500 this past Sunday. Edwards would beat out his teammate Greg Biffle, turning a lap at 194.738, which is the fastest pole-winning speed since Jeff Gordon's 1999 lap of 195.067. In doing so, Edwards secured the top starting spot in the Daytona 500. NASCAR guarantees starting spots to the top 35 teams in owners' points from last season. Three unguaranteed spots go to the fastest drivers in time trials not already locked in, while one more spot goes to a previous NASCAR champion who does not already qualify for the previous categories. Trevor Bayne (the winner of last year's edition of "The Great American Race"), Tony Raines, David Stremme and past NASCAR champion Terry Labonte have claimed these four spots heading into the 500. Two more qualifying races will occur this coming Thursday to determine the final four spots. (via Yahoo Sports)
Top Unsigned College Football Recruit
Devonte Neal, the highest rated unsigned recruit of 2012, bailed on a news conference this past Tuesday but later returned and announced he will sign a letter of intent with Notre Dame. The wide receiver had previously announced that he would attend either home state Arizona, Notre Dame, Arkansas or North Carolina. Sources say that the young player would rather make his collegiate start close to home, while his father would rather have him play for Notre Dame. No one can say for sure when Neal will make his final decision, but for now, the Fighting Irish seem to have the upper hand. (via NBC Sports)
