Returning five seniors from last season, the women's club soccer team opened their 2011-12 season this past weekend at ODU. The team played games against both ODU and Virginia Wesleyan. Both games were close until the end, resulting in a Longwood 2-1 loss to ODU and 1-0 loss to Virginia Wesleyan. Despite losing both, players felt the games could have ended differently. Junior goalie Sarah Cassette said, "We looked strong passing and possessing the ball. We were just unlucky with the outcomes." Enthusiasm and optimism regarding their 2012 season is high as the team looks to avenge their two losses with a win against VCU this upcoming Saturday. The game is scheduled to start at noon on the turf field in Lancer Park.
