Longwood's baseball team avenged their tough loss to James Madison last week with three wins away from home this past weekend. Completing a three-game series in Baltimore, Md., Longwood swept Coppin State University, outscoring them 24-1 on the first day.
With a combined total of 16 hits, the Lancers took the first game on Saturday 11-0, led by senior Dustin Sollars with three hits and four RBI, senior Robby Newman with three hits and two RBI, and sophomore Alex Owens with two hits and two RBI. Junior Kyler Morgan gave up only four hits, walking zero while striking out seven to re¬cord a complete game shutout victory.
Immediately following the shutout, the Lancers won again, defeating Coppin State 13-1 during the second game on Saturday. Sollars recorded another three hits and two RBI while sophomore Matt Dickason contributed two hits and one RBI. Freshman Brandon Vick threw two scoreless innings in his first collegiate win.
The Lancers extended their winning streak to three games on Sunday, defeating Coppin State 6-5 and sweeping the se¬ries. The Lancers scored six runs through six innings, holding the Eagles to only five runs. Dicka¬son recorded three doubles and one RBI, while freshman Tyler Wislocki earned the pitching victory.
The Lancers will host Temple for four games this upcoming weekend with a double-header on Saturday. They look to capitalize on a three-game winning streak. The opener is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. this Friday.
