The women's basketball team fell against the Eastern Kentucky University Colonels last Wednesday, Jan. 25 by a score of 80-62. The game was held in Richmond, Ky. Junior Crystal Smith led the Lancers with 18 points and senior Brittanni Billups scored 17 points. Billups also pulled down seven rebounds in the contest. Jade Barber had a double-double for the Colonels with game highs of 19 points and 17 rebounds.
Heather Tobeck scored 12 points for Longwood. Longwood shot 32.4 percent (22-68) from the field, including 29.4 percent (5-17) from three-point range and 61.9 percent (13-21) from the charity stripe. The Lancers combined for 13 assists and 16 steals.
Marie Carpenter contributed 18 points and six rebounds for the host Colonels. Meanwhile, Brittany Coles scored 12 points for the home team. The Colonels shot 53.3 percent (32-60) from the field, including 28.6 percent (4-14) from three-point range and 63.2 percent (12-19) from the foul line.
The Lancers are 5-19 this season with one month left of competition. Longwood returns to the hardwood on Monday, Feb. 6 when it takes on Savannah State University of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference at 7 p.m. in Savannah, Ga.
