Superbowl XLVI Pigskin Pick 'Em

Ben Maitland, Sports Editor:  Manning and Brady both direct their offenses like generals on a battlefield. You'll be hearing the names Cruz, Nicks, Gronkowski, Welker and Hernandez quite a bit on Sunday. I'm still not sold on the Patriots' defense. One turnover forced by the Giants' pass rush will be the deciding moment. WINNER: Giants

Peter Mancuso, Asst. Sports Editor:Although it's hard to go against Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, I believe the Giants' pass rush is playing extremely well. Also, Eli has been playing lights out and will continue to do so against the suspect secondary of the Patriots. WINNER: Giants

Dr. Tim Pierson, Vice President of Student Affairs: Manning vs. Brady is certainly a headliner, but the difference in this game will be the pass rush of the G-Men led by Pierre-Paul. I like the athleticism and strategy of bringing four defensive ends to pressure Brady and disrupt the potent passing attack of the Patriots. One other reason the Giants will win: Victor Cruz, who simply catches everything thrown in his area code! WINNER: Giants

Jeff Halliday, Assistant Professor of Communication Studies: As the proud son of two native Bostonians, I predict the New England Patriots will get their '18-1' revenge with a 31-17 win.  To do so, they have to keep the Giants' formidable pass rush at bay, which they failed to do in Super Bowl XLII. I predict Tom Brady will join his idol Joe Montana, causing them to be the only two players to win a trio of Super Bowl MVP awards. WINNER: Patriots

Kevin Green, Longwood Junior:Both teams are coming in hot and motivated, and I think that will lead to a great game. The problem for the Giants this time is that Eli and that pass rush are no longer a secret. I believe that Tom Brady will bounce back from a bad performance in the AFC Championship to claim his fourth title and third Super Bowl MVP award. WINNER: Patriots

Steven Sommer, Longwood Sophomore: The Giants are riding the high right now, but there is no way Tom Brady will let himself play as poorly as he did against the Ravens. Post-season Brady puts the team on his back in Super Bowl XLVI as the Patriots top the Giants, 21-17. WINNER: Patriots

Eric Hobeck, Longwood Freshman: As long as the New England offensive line can hold back the Giants' front seven, the Lombardi Trophy will go back to Foxborough for the fourth time. I'm picking the Patriots by a touchdown. WINNER: Patriots
