On Monday, Jan. 23, the Longwood community received big news. It was announced that the Lancers had finally found a conference home in the Big South. The fourth Virginia team in the conference, and 12th overall, Longwood will begin play in the Big South next year.
This Thursday, there will be a pep rally in the Lee Grand Dining Room of Dorrill Dining Hall before the men's basketball game against the Knights of Southern Virginia University. The pep rally will start at 6 p.m., with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. in Willett Hall. Longwood Student Government Association (SGA) President Brandon Fry said, "I am really looking forward to it. At the pep rally, there will be giveaways by the SGA, Lancer Productions, Lancer Lunatics and the Lancer Club (a Longwood Athletics booster organization). All of those organizations have contributed to this pep rally, which will be a great success."
Athletics Department's Director of Marketing Eric Stoller said that the sponsors will have "face painting, tattoos and t-shirts, and the first 300 students will receive a free Longwood rally towel. We will also have the cheerleaders, Elwood, the Pep Band and Lancer Lunatics in attendance."
Fry also implied that it would be similar to The Greatest Athletics Marches Ever (GAMEs) of the past, saying, "We will all march from the rally to the game and cheer our Lancers to victory!"
