The Importance of Unity in Europe and Why it Matters

According to an interview from London on CNN.com, unity throughout Europe, despite the impending debt crisis, is becoming increasingly crucial. Leaders throughout Europe are fighting to "keep the eurozone and the wider European Union together in the face of a financial crisis that threatens to split partnerships forged over more than half a century." In the article, unity is very important to Europe because when looking back at history, the continent has been split by "long-running conflicts that pitted neighboring countries against each other." According to the questions asked in the article, the idea for the European Union goes back centuries and has been proposed by many historical figures such as William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, to philosophers such as Immanuel Kant and Jeremy Bentham. The union has been very vital in ensuring peace and stability in certain regions, as it has also helped countries transition over to democracy and build up to economic prosperity.

Penn State Sex Abuse Case May Result in More Charges and Victims

According to CNN, more charges could be issued for a former Penn State University (PSU) football coach who was accused of sexually abusing boys between 1994 and 2009. Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly did not rule out this possibility on Monday at a news conference, urging "anyone with information about the case to come forward," in particular, information regarding an unidentified boy "whom a graduate assistant testified seeing having sex with former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky in 2002." Kelly commented that the failure to report these claims initially is most likely the reason they have "perpetuated a nightmarish loop of abuse." Regarding PSU Athletic Director Timothy Curley, 57, and Gary Schultz, 62, Kelly explained that because they did not report the crimes in the first place, a child predator continued to victimize children for many years. Each man has been charged with one count of perjury and one count of failure to report suspected abuse. In the article, according to Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan, the case is one of the more unusual he has investigated during his career, especially since no action was taken against Sandusky despite several eyewitness accounts.

Murray Found Guilty in Death of Michael Jackson

As reported by BBC News, Michael Jackson's personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray has been found guilty in Jackson's death by involuntary manslaughter. Jackson died on June 25, 2009 from an overdose of anesthetic propofol. A panel of seven men and five women in Los Angeles took two days of deliberation before they reached a verdict on the case. BBC reports the jury was made up of one African American, six whites and five Hispanics who deliberated Friday through Monday morning. Murray, according to the article, could receive a maximum prison term of four years and lose his license to practice medicine. As the verdict was read aloud to the courtroom, Murray sat silently in his seat and looked forward. One of the main arguments in the case was that Jackson "self-administered a lethal dose of the drug while he was out of the room." Up until the verdict was announced, fans of Jackson were outside of the courtroom were cheering and calling out "Guilty! Guilty!"

Chicago Woman Public Says Cain Sexually Harassed Her

According to Yahoo! News, Sharon Bialek of Chicago, Ill. became the "first woman accusing Herman Cain of sexual harassment to go public Monday." She claimed the alleged incident happened in Washington, D.C. in 1997, a time in which Cain was president of the National Restaurant Association. Bialek told reporters that Cain allegedly stuck his hand up her skirt and then tried to pull her hand toward his crotch. When she resisted, saying, "What are you doing? You know I have a boyfriend. This isn't what I came here for," Cain allegedly answered, "You want a job, right?" Bialek contacted Cain before asking for assistance in getting a job. Cain's campaign spokesman J. D. Gordon immediately responded to the accusation, saying, "All allegations of harassment against Mr. Cain are completely false. Mr. Cain has never harassed anyone." While two other women have filed complaints of sexual harassment against Cain, neither has come forward to speak publically about the incident. In the article, Bialek is described by Gloria Allred, Bialek's attorney, as a Republican and the single mother of a 13- year-old, as someone "to give a face to those women who cannot."

Man Found Dead after Trying to Rid Home of 60,000 Bees

Reported by AOL, a man was found dead in his home that was apparently infested with bees. The man was discovered by his teenage daughter. According to the article, "Donald Mason, 49, was found in the upstairs bedroom of a Miami home that he was renovating." Investigators have not determined the cause of death, however, Mason's brother has told the Miami Herald, where the report was first discovered, that Mason fell from a chair while swatting at a swarm of bees and hit his head. Mason had been trying to renovate the home on a limited budget, attempting to fog spray the hive in the wall. After this, he then tried to patch up the hole in the wall with tape. Police explained to the Miami Herald that Mason's death is considered unclassified, "but it's more likely his death was due to the fall, rather than anything to do with the bees." The article further reports that Willie Sklaroff, who runs a bee extermination company, was called into to help with case. Upon assessing the house, he said there were at least 60,000 bees living inside the walls of the house.
