Home Intruder Killed After Breaking into Home

A home invasion in Prince Edward County ended in one death last Thursday night. According to the Virginia State Police, the incident occurred just before midnight Thursday on Pisgah Church Road in Rice, Va. The scene is right off of Route 460, east of Farmville.

According to State Police, a male subject broke into the home. The home belonged to an off-duty Prince Edward County Sherriff's deputy. The intruder, identified on Friday as Clarence Bobby Banks, 30, of Farmville, died at the scene after being shot by the homeowner. Banks' body was transported to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond, Va. on Friday for a positive identification.

Five people were inside the home during the incident, including the deputy's wife and three children. There were no other injuries at the residence. The Virginia State Police has assumed the investigation since a Prince Edward Co. deputy was involved. No charges have been filed at this time.
