BSA Ball - Hollywood, A Red Carpet Affair

Friday, Sept. 30, from approximately 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., the Black Student Association (BSA) and Peer Health Educators hosted the annual BSA Ball. The event was held in the Lankford Student Union Ballroom, and was a definite success. The attire for the Ball was formal, which was only fitting given the theme – "Hollywood, Red Carpet Affair". Complete with a glitzy red carpet at the entrance, the BSA Ball had everything from good food and the latest music to VIP accommodations, awards, and much more!

Throughout the night, students danced, conversed and had an overall good time.  Even though the Ball was lively and students were encouraged to enjoy themselves thoroughly, the BSA also made sure the event had positive information given to the students in attendance as well. Images and information were projected throughout the night in the form of a slide show for all to see. Those slides included information about safety and responsibility in regards to alcohol consumption anduse. Also, the slides featured pictures of the students who are members of BSA and Peer Health Educators around campus, partaking in various activities and events. Members of the BSA executive board took turns throughout the night assisting with the music as well as making announcements as to who winners were of VIP awards. Students who lucked out and were selected to be VIP were given a party favor from the BSA as well as special accommodations in the VIP section. Included in the VIP section were small bags filled with party favors, fresh fruit, and chocolate covered strawberries.

When asked how she felt about the Ball, Abena Arkorful, a sophomore here at LU said, "I thought the Ball was amazing! It was well planned and creative. I was so happy about the turnout of the student body!"

Jasmine Luck, a visiting student from VCU, also seemed to enjoy herself. She said, "This was my first time visiting the campus, and this was a great way to start. The Black Student Association did a really good job with the Ball. I definitely plan to come back next year!"

Treasurer for the BSA, Brittney Clements, took the time to share a few of her thoughts in regards to the Ball."I was happy with the overall turnout of the Ball. It was pretty stressful getting things together, but it was worth it because everyone seemed to enjoy it and we had a good turnout. I feel that pairing with the Peer Educators for this year's Ball gave more of a positive impact and caused more people attend. The event seemed more open because more than one organization sponsored it and more diversity was included. Next year, we hope to see more people coming out to the event and we just hope to encourage all people to come out and get involved and support BSA."

The BSA and Peer Health Educators threw a Ball that won't soon be forgotten. With the success they had at this year's Ball, I'm sure all are excited to see what they will have in store for the future.
