Men's Golf Finishes First, Women's Golf Finishes Second

Both men and women's golf had strong showings at their tournaments over the weekend. The men's team finished first out of 13 teams in the Bucknell Invitational played at the Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa. The Lancers were led by senior Austin Gray who was a tournament medalist shooting 68-71-69-208 to put him two-under-par for the tournament. The women's team finished second out of 16 teams at the Yale Women's Intercollegiate played at the Course at Yale in New Haven, Conn. Junior Ariel Witmer led the Lancers shooting 69-74-75-221 to finish third in the tournament. The Lancers had a combined score of 910 (297-304-309), 16 strokes behind the winning school Harvard. 

According to longwoodlancers.com, Gray tied the school record with his best college score 208. There was a four-way tie for second place with the Lancers' senior Kenny Leech in the mix shooting 75-61-71-213. Gray dominated the par threes and led the field with an average score of 2.87. Gray was tied for third in birdies, recording ten and tied for sixth in pars recording 37. Leech also had ten birdies in the tournament. Senior Ross Sumner shot 70-71-74 giving him a score of 215 tying him for eighth. Sumner also recorded an eagle over the weekend tying him for first in eagles in the tournament. 

Witmer's two-over-par was closely followed by sophomore Amanda Steinhagen who shot 71-75-77-223 and finished fifth in the tournament. According to longwoodlancers.com, the other results from the Lancers were fifth year senior Kameron Carter (77-79-79-235), junior Ha Lee (79-82-76-237) and sophomore Hannah Pierce (83-76-79-238). 

The men's team will compete again at the William and Mary Invitational on Oct.4-5.  The women's team will get back on the course again in the Penn State Invitational on Sept. 30 – Oct. 2.
