Lancer CA$H: A New Way to Pay

You have probably heard about Lancer CA$H by now and you may have even purchased a few items through your newly created Lancer CA$H account. This relativity new service at Longwood University is a prepaid, electronic debit account that works through your LancerCard (a.k.a., ID card). All students, faculty and staff are welcome to take advantage of this service.

LancerCard Manager Crissy Sampier said via e-mail the best place to find up-to-date lists of locations accepting Lancer CA$H is to visit the webpage at http://www.longwood.edu/lancercard/.

Over the summer, the Longwood Post Office, located in the basement of the Lankford Student Union; Campus Recreation; and the Health & Wellness Center were all added to the growing list of locations frequented by students now accepting this alternative payment method. And a big favorite of students—Buffalo Wild Wings—has come on board.

"We have increased our online services as well," Sampier said. Students are able to manage their meal plans and Bonus Dollars, view account balances, deposit to Lancer CA$H accounts (from a MasterCard or Visa), mark cards lost, and even check out the washer and dryer availability in residence halls.

You can make a deposit to your account many different ways. Students can do this in person at the LancerCard Center in Lancaster Hall G22 using personal/travel checks, cash, money orders, and MasterCard or Visa. Through the online account, money can also be added, but a $2 processing fee will be deducted from your deposit. There is also an on-campus station in the basement of the Student Union that allows money to be moved to a Lancer CA$H account.

In addition to the services available, Sampier noted Lancer CA$H's partnership with the Longwood Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Midtown Square for promotions and discounts. "In August, if you purchase your textbooks or pay for your textbook rental with Lancer CA$H, you will receive a free pair of sunglasses and croakie," she said. Students can also save 10 percent at Barnes & Noble each Friday on non-textbook purchases.

Sampier said her advice to all students is "give Lancer CA$H a try." She said it is a safe method of payment for students and is convenient since students are required to carry their ID cards for access into buildings. "Unlike cash, if you lose your ID, you can mark your card lost and the funds will be safe," Sampier added. "Once we print you a new card, you will have access to all the same things you had before you lost your card."

Sampier claimed  Lancer CA$H is unique because students are able to accomplish business on one card instead of using multiple cards. In addition, , using Lancer CA$H is a necessity in some cases. Students who print in the Greenwood Library or any academic computer lab on campus are required to swipe their LancerCard to pay for printing on the spot.

Don't forget to tell your family they can move money to your account as well. They can mail a check to LancerCard Center, 201 High Street G22 Lancaster Hall Farmville, VA 23909. Be sure to include the name and Longwood Identification Number (L Number) of the student for verification purposes. Guests can also make a deposit online via the account management page needing only your L number.

If you load up your account and fail to use all of your money this year, do not fret. Your Lancer CA$H balance carries over each semester. Just make sure you use it all before graduation. In fact, Sampier noted, "If you are a senior and don't want to lose the money – go spend it. Put gas in your car at Sheetz, go buy lunch, pay for all or part of your diploma frame from the bookstore. There are so many possibilities."
