Presidential Search Well Underway

Fourteen-member search and advisory committee working to find new president by 2010

With a little over a year left in Longwood President Patricia Cormier's contract, the Board of Visitors (BOV) has begun the search for the university's next leader. While the process is still in its early stages, the BOV has already established a 14-member presidential search and screening advisory committee and is in the process of hiring a search firm to assist in the nationwide search. In the April 22, 2009 meeting, the Student Government Association (SGA) voted to bring back the school yearbook The Virginian. The book, which encountered many problems in the past, now has a new editorial staff and publisher on board. Over the summer, SGA President Caitlin Revene and Vice- President Stephen Lee had a meeting with the old publisher Herff Jones. (3) comments

At the April 22 meeting, the Student Government Association (SGA) discussed the return of The Virginian, Longwood's yearbook. Former Vice President Stephen Lee presented a slideshow with information about the yearbook. A few weeks ago, Lee created a survey on Survey Monkey where he polled 700 students about the yearbook and the USA Today Readership Program, which bring the Richmond Times -Dispatch, USA Today and The New York Times to campus. In recent weeks, the Farmville Town Council decided to hire an investigator to review the strengths and weaknesses of the police department and its relationship with Longwood students and other members of the community. (0) comments

National Debate Sparks Local Protest

This past Wednesday, April 15, the Charlottesville Amphitheater was host to the Jefferson Area Tea Party. Amid the "Don't Tread on Me" flags reminiscent of our Founding Fathers and the homemade posters declaring "End Piracy in D. (0) comments

On Thursday, April 16, a sprinkler head was knocked off in the gym by a basketball, causing gallons of water to spill out all over the first court. Two boys were in the gym, playing a game of 'who could hurl the basketball the hardest' causing the sprinkler to be hit. (0) comments

On February 2, 2009, Longwood University sent out a press release announcing a new Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program to begin in the fall of 2009. Since this program was announced, the Longwood administration has been working diligently to staff this new program and to spread the word about what the nursing program will be like for accepted students. As of July 1, 2009, Longwood will no longer be accepting Visa as a payment method for any student account. However, according to a press release from Randy Sherrod, MasterCard, American Express (AMEX) and Discover will still be accepted. ACH bank drafts will also continue to be processed, with no charge to the student. (0) comments

The Farmville area is located in heart of Virginia. This includes the Town of Farmville, Cumberland County and Prince Edward County. Prince Edward County was founded in 1754. Cumberland County was established in 1749, and the Town of Farmville was founded in 1798. (0) comments
