We’ve all heard the stories of the terrible roommates, and I’m sure at least half of us have had that experience ourselves. Luckily for us, we can change that. Housing registration is right around the corner with students being able to start squatting their apartments as early as Monday. This will go on from Monday, February 8 to Wednesday, February 10. It is important to note that anyone with more than 56 credits at the end of the Spring '21 term is eligible to do a studio lottery application. In summary, you can try to get your own room. While this is all starting this week, most students won’t be able to apply for housing until next week.
Everyone has their favorite people, and luckily for us students, most of us can room with them as well. Don’t forget that before you are able to register your entire group for an apartment or a dorm room, you will need to create a roommate group. You can easily do this by going into the housing gateway and creating a roommate group. When you log into your housing gateway, everyone is given an RMS ID. This number is at the top the screen, highlighted under your name. Whoever is the designated roommate, the person with the most credits that will do the housing registration, will need these numbers. When your designated goes to actually choose which dorm or apartment you stay in, they will be able to pull you in as a roommate from that group. It is important that after they invite you to the group, you make sure to accept it. If you don’t, your name will not appear during registration.
If you’re not sure how many credits you’ll have at the end of the semester, you can easily check this by going to the housing gateway and looking at "Check Credits". This is important as it will determine what day next week you will submit your housing registration. Seniors, students with at least 89 credits, will be able to start their apartment registration on Monday, February 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Juniors, students with at least 56 credits, will be able to do apartment registration February 16 at those same times. Sophomores, with no more than 55 credits, will be the last to choose their apartments on February 17.
Now, we all know everyone wants to be in an apartment or try and get into a townhouse. Unfortunately, Longwood has a lot of students, so some of us will have to room in a dorm next year. Students who missed these days, or don’t want to stay in an apartment, can choose to register to be on the main campus. This will start on March 15 with sophomores, 40-55 credits, being able to select rooms first, followed by sophomores with less than 39 credits on March 16. Last but not least, on March 17, juniors and seniors, students with 56 credits or more, will be able to register for their rooms. Unlike during apartment selection, females will be able to register for housing from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and male students will be able to register from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
