Counting Down the Days Until I Don't Have to Care

According to my calendar there are 66 days left until summer and only 43 days of classes left. Not only that, but there's only a week and a half until spring break. I don't know about you, but I am so stoked and cannot wait until the end.

And no one knows that more than my roommate - not because I talk about it all the time but more because I'm starting to get lazier and lazier. I admit it, my side of the room is an absolute mess. I have Pepsi bottles from the student union all over my desk, my bed is hardly ever made up and my trash is begging to be taken out.

This may seem normal to some people, but it's definitely a change from the beginning of the year to a few weeks ago when my side of the room was immaculately tidy. I, by no means, am OCD, but I've never been much of a slob either . until now.

And it's not that I mean to be messy, I'm just getting lazy. I can practically taste summer, which is not good for my motivation. With each day passing I'm starting to care less and less, which probably isn't good.

But I think I may have found a quick fix to my laziness/messiness. It appears that the drawers in my dresser are bigger than necessary, which means that consolidation is possible. So instead of taking up all four of my drawers with clothes, I just use the bottom two. The other two, however, are used for junk.

My top drawer is filled with my hair and makeup supplies in disarray and my bottom drawer is filled with dishes, both clean and used. I just realized how gross that sounded, but I feel that if I'm the only one using the dishes then it's not that big of a deal if I wash them after every use.

Now that I have found a solution to hiding my mess all I have to do is keep it hidden and forget about it until it's time to pack up and go home - at which point I will be recruiting my friends to help me out. And if they won't help maybe I can get that ShamWow guy to come and magically clean everything.

The point is, I don't have to worry about my mess anymore because I can't see it anymore. It's the whole out of side, out of mind method.

While the mess is more of a nuisance (I still bathe and do laundry on a regular basis) my real problem is trying to get motivated to do school work anymore. It's not that I don't care about my grades, it's just that I tend to put it off until later. The problem is that later never comes.

Since I've never had this horrible problem of lack of motivation before I figured there was something wrong with me, so I went on WebMD to try and find out why my diagnosis was. I typed in my symptoms and there is was matching perfectly - indifference, the suppression of emotions such as concern, excitement, motivation and passion, the absence of interest or concern to emotional, social or physical life, may also exhibit insensibility or sluggishness - it appears that I suffer from the lethal disease of apathy.

Further research into this disease led to me to find that these symptoms are just the beginning. As apathy continues to spread the victim starts to lose touch with the rest of the world and only makes contact through text message or via Facebook.

Wow, that was a lot of research and work for one day; I think I might take a nap in a minute. Oh, also apparently there is a cure for the illness but I don't really care enough to look it up. But, I have a feeling that I'm not the only one having this problem. So if anyone knows the cure for apathy let me know, or not, it's whatever.

The good news is that spring break is right around the corner, and after that there are only about six more weeks until summer. The bad news, however, is that I'm only a freshman. I have at least three more years of this. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to deal for now. It could be worse.
