New Booth Set-up Receives Positive Feedback

 If you ventured out to the booths at Spring Weekend, you probably noticed the set-up was a little bit different. Last semesters, Director of Student Union and Involvement Susan Sullivan sent out an email to the student body asking them for feedback about Spring Weekend and Oktoberfest. She requested to learn about what students liked and disliked about Longwood’s two weekend festivals. That information was then collected and analyzed.

Longwood University students elected the 2012- 2013 Student Government Association (SGA) Executive Board and senators via Blackboard on Monday, April 9 through Friday, April 13. On Tuesday, April 17, the long awaited election results were released on the SGA website.

    Longwood Design Lab students Katilyn Smith, David Abbott, Jessica Cox, Colleen Festa, Kathryn Grayson, Emily Staskiel, Sara Schu and Kyle Flowlkes, recently worked on a project creating a logo for Virginia STEM CoNNect (Collaborative Nurturing Network to Enhance Content-focused Teaching), a consortium of universities, institutions, and K-12 schools from Virginia. The consortium will send members to a STEM camp (of sorts) this summer to generate exemplar activities and teaching methodologies for teachers and students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

  • baseball Longwood Baseball Looks to Extend Three-game Winning Streak

    Those present at the Longwood versus Virginia Military Institute (VMI) baseball game last Wednesday night saw a preview of future Big South rivals going at it. Winning their third straight game and improving their record to 18-16, the Longwood men’s baseball team beat future conference rival VMI 8-6, knocking in runs in five out of nine innings.

    Antwan Carter Makes All-State TeamIt was also announced last week that Carter (St. Petersburg, Fla. /St. Petersburg High) was selected to the Virginia Sports Information Directors’ 2012 All-State Men’s Basketball Team. The first team, which is comprised totally of seniors, also includes Virginia forward Mike Scott, George Mason forward Ryan Pearson, Hampton guard Darrion Pellum and Norfolk State center Ryan O’Quinn.

     

  • Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino Reportedly Fired

    According to ESPN.com, the ex-Falcon Head Coach Bobby Petrino was reportedly fired by Arkansas. Petrino was put on paid leave last week for not telling his boss quickly enough that a 25-year old female football program employee was riding with him during a motorcycle accident on April 1.

  • Bubba Wins the Masters

    This past Sunday in Augusta, Ga., people witnessed one of the most thrilling finishes to the Masters. The tournament came down to two players, Bubba Watson and Louis Oosthuizen, who faced off in sudden death after finishing the day at 10-under. Both Watson and Oosthuizen came from behind throughout their final 18-hole round, Watson finishing with four straight birdies on the back nine to redeem his early round triple bogey, and Oosthuizen who made a double eagle on the par five second hole.

  • Miami Heat Extend Their Home Win Streak to 17

    On Wednesday, April 4, the Miami Heat beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 98-93 to extend their home win streak to 17 games, making it the longest home winning streak in the NBA this season. However, neither winning nor losing this game affected either of these teams’ chances at the playoffs. Both teams are placed second in their division, with the third place team at least five games behind in each division.
